When will my parents grow up ?

I jus could not come up with a better title.

Well I m from an Indian family, to be more precise I’m a south Indian malu. (keralites are called that )

Now most of the kids coming from a south Indian family must be familiar with the amount of restrictions they are put through.

Im sure about this because of my best friends go through the same shit.

And whenever I meet them our favourite pastime is parent bashing (yeah not girlfriend bashing, no girlfriend that’s why maybe)

But the amount of aggression that comes up, oh my god, feels like we can beat Rocky Balboa (yeah Sylvester Stallone), with our hands tied behind our back.

Lol.

Ill make it more clear, about what restrictions I have and what I go through.

Let’s start with the T.V.

Now I’m not allowed to watch M.TV, or channel V. I can understand this , they always get irritated with the shows that come on it n all.

Ok fine.

But now if I’m watching something else (excluding malu channels )

The battle ensues..

Mom starts eating my head, as to why do I watch all these movies or shows or whatever (there’s no exemption on to what I can watch, it includes everything I watch), why do I waste time, cant I do something worthwhile , n blah blah…

Now moms can be easily overpowered, and the best way would be to ignore all the taunts coming your way.

Now one of the most repeated dialogues by my dear mom “ I feel like I’m talking to the wall ”

I don’t mind being a wall, but if u still ignore her, the final blow, she makes her voice so significant that dad is supposed to hear her misery ( lol, its irritating and also funny) , even if he is no where near.

Now that is more than enough for dad to enter the battlefield.

Now I’m scared of my dad.

He’s got this habit of grinding his teeth before he loses his temper. And yeah he’s a hot headed guy.

Though i'm tryin to get used to it, it pulls all the confidence from your till now overconfident mind and thus I lose the winning battle.

Thus no T.V.

And there are so many other things.

Like studies , this is common with evryone, especially with south Indian people (which is why we are smart- thank you mom, dad)

Then comes career , we all know how hard we have to convince our parents for an unconventional career. In my case I think we can start a company consisting my whole south Indian family and the company name would be name “we were born and brought up to engineer “.

Well any ways I was luckily able to deviate my path from engineerin to cartoons, since I took up animation. Though it did take some time convincing , they support me now owing to recession and the down in IT companies.

Lol.

Now I would say my life is dedicated to computers and I definitely am gonna work in some thing related to computers.

But even if I’m studying , doing projects, my animation stuff or whatever, they jus don’t care.

I cant sit on the PC for more than 30 minutes (avg figure noted over the years) for peace.

Then I can max pull that to more 15 mins but then how can I survive the grinding of teeth.

Forgot to mention, I had to convince 4 years that I needed internet for educational purposes till I finally got it. But what a waste it is in this manner.

Yes I'm a guy.

But still I have to reach home by 8 pm.

Actually m supposed to stay at home all the time.

Lol.

I dunno what m I expected to do sitting at home.

I cant watch TV, no computer, m not even talking about listening to music (dats worse).

Now no ways I can study the whole time, I doubt if thers anybody left in our current time who even touches the book before 1 day of the exams.

But I have reached such I stage that I tried that too.

That’s when I wonder “when will my parents grow up ? , when will they accept things ?”

Now that doesn’t make sense at all.

Ill tell you why.

I have tried standing up for these and retaliated too.

But that doesn’t change a lot.

If there has to be a change it should always have been in me.

Its me who has to change not them (how could I even have said that).

My dearest girl friend (a friend who is incidentally a girl) made me realize “that I had to grow up “.

Well I couldn’t really agree with that at first, but that is absolutely correct.

I had to grow up.

If I had then my parents just needed to know that.

I just need to make them understand that “ mom, dad , I think I have grown up”.

Not so easy.

Well it is difficult for them to accept that we have grown up, but we could try.

If they do understand, it would change everything.

I hope I grow up soon, so that I could sit long on my computer without the feeling of the clock ticking in my head.

Now that was the most immature statement I could make.

And thus I can end this post sayin “ when will I grow up ?”

M sorry mom, dad, if I have disrespected you.

But I love you both.

  9. That was a long one..
    But very well concluded.
Growing up is a process and it continues all the time till we stop doing it ;)
Alas, we fall in the illusion that we have reached peak, and stop our journey..
May we all see each other at the top.. :)

  10. nice one Deepak:)..but lemme tell u, every person in this world has restrictions.. its true, U cant expect your parents to grow up. no, one hting u can do is, don do stuffs in front of them wat they don like. standin up to confront them wil only worsen the matter, besides it is not the right thing to do. Present situation asks u to be calm n explain to them wat is necessary for u ( in d sense computer for project)..
and for music... well i totally agree wit u:)
really loved the last two lines:)
